WordPress is set to release its second major update this year in November 2017. Unless you are playing around on the backend of your website, WordPress 4.9 probably won’t mean much and it will be easy for you to ignore.
That would be a mistake.
Every time WordPress updates, so do your plugins. It might take a while, but your mail integrations, feeds, and even analytics will eventually update so that they are compatible with WordPress 4.9. If you aren’t updating your site on a regular basis, then eventually, things will break.
WordPress 4.9 Feature Updates
For those of you who like to work on your own websites, here are some of the features you can expect in the newest WordPress 4.9 update.
Create Drafts of Theme Changes in the Customizer
If you want to play around with the look of your theme (colors, headers, etc.) you can now do so and save the results as a draft rather than having to make them live.
Gallery Widget
You can now add a native WordPress Gallery to any widget, allowing you to create beautiful displays on the side or bottom of any page or post
Adding Media to Text in Widgets
The last WordPress update before WordPress 4.9 gave us a text editor for widgets. With this release, you can now add media to that text, just as you would on the page itself.
Enhanced Code Editor
This code editor comes with syntax highlighting, code suggestions, and auto-completion. Adding custom CSS will be even easier than before.
